DESCRIPTION

Beautiful 18th century Brewlands Cottage has been renovated to 5 star standards, but we have retained the original features, eg the huge fireplace with its woodburning stove. Families love its flexibility and its situation: (fishing is possible from the garden , there is good cycle storage and the hot tub is right on the river bank, though it is safely fenced off), but with an ensuite king size bedroom downstairs, with power shower and underfloor heating , it is very cosy for a couple too: lots of our guests come for honeymoons and other moons.

Set amidst stunning mountains on the bank of the beautiful river Isla, equidistant between Pitlochry, Braemar and Blairgowrie, Brewlands Cottage is situated at the heart of an ancient Highland estate in Glenisla. It is an utterly peaceful location, yet five minutes from good pub food with lots of excellent restaurants in the area, 35 minutes from great cashmere, artisan and gourmet food producers and shops and only 90 minutes from Edinburgh’s World Heritage Sites, world famous museums and galleries and  renowned International Festival. The surrounding hills rise to 2500 feet and there is a huge variety of wildflowers: part of the glen is a wildflower reserve.  Playbarn with table tennis, table football and other games.

Catering to any level is available from our estate chef, who specialises in using the best organic local produce. Please see our catering section for details. With its water from an ancient spring, the hot tub and the estate cook available (fresh soda bread, hot cheese scones and wicked puddings a specialty ), this is a wonderful place for a relaxing get-away, yet its central location means that it is also ideal for exploring all of Scotland and experiencing the very best that Scotland has to offer.

Brewlands Cottage is close to the King’s and Queen Mother’s Balmoral and Glamis Castles: there are 258 other castles in the area, more than in any other part of the UK. We offer terrific clay pigeon shooting, country sports and wildlife safaris on the estate (this is a hot spot for rare red squirrels), private whisky tastings, a piper for special occasions, bespoke Highland Games and other adventures. See the Country Sports and the Catering sections of our website for more.

Other activities in the area include river fishing, water sports, on and off-road cycling on quiet roads and tracks and tours of some of the world’s most famous distilleries, including The Macallan and The Glenlivet. Championship golf courses at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles (home of the 2014 Ryder Cup) are within easy reach and there are 30 golf courses within an hour. Scott of the Antarctic’s ship and the new V & A Museum in Dundee are a 50 minute drive. See our Adventures section.

Lie in the hot tub watching the river and its wildlife or stroll the 100 metres to one of Queen Victoria’s favourite picnic spots while we make you supper. There are beautiful walks from the door at any level (there are 12 Munros within an hour) to e.g. The Fairy Glen, along the woodland paths up to the rugged heathery mountains which have spectacular panoramic views (shared with hundreds of deer and, in spring and early summer the liquid calls of the curlews) or the Reekie Linn ( the smoky waterfall), a spectacular waterfall 15 minute’s from the house.

We can do your shopping, babysit your children, collect you from the airport or from walks and do your laundry.   In winter you can visit Glenshee, the UK’s most extensive ski area,  35 minutes’ drive away.  With a full concierge service, we will do everything we can to ensure that your holiday with us is a truly happy one!

Sunny 18th century sitting room with enormous original fireplace and original shutters in working order, with views south across the garden to the river, and to two huge copper beech trees, and west to the surrounding hills.

Fully equipped Poggenpohl kitchen with views towards the King’s estate at Balmoral from one window, and from the other, a view of the River Isla, which flows 5 metres away below the garden.   Romantic king-sized bedroom (with ensuite bathroom with underfloor heating, power shower and heated towel rail) with working shutters and original cast iron fireplace.  Views to the river from the bed.  South facing sun porch.

Upstairs there are two sunny south facing super king/twin bedrooms overlooking the garden and a bathroom with a titanic-sized newly renovated 19th-century bath tub.  Floor to ceiling heated towel rails.  A sitting out/games area  with work station is also on the first floor.

Outside there is a flower garden surrounded by an ancient stone wall  covered in honeysuckle and roses and a beech hedge.  Large lawn ideal for games.  The entire garden (half an acre) is enclosed safely for pets with a play barn equipped with table tennis, table football, etc.  There is a sheltered seating area with table and chairs and a barbeque.  Parking for 3 cars.  Secluded private hot tub beside the river.

CHANGES TO RESERVATIONS BY YOU

We will advise you if this is the case and you will have the option to continue with the first reservation. Should we be able to transfer your booking to another property there will be an administration fee.

RESERVATION CANCELLATION OR ADJUSTMENT BY US

We hope that we do not have to either cancel or adjust your booking in any way: however, if unforeseen problems did occur, we would contact you immediately to discuss any proposed cancellation or adjustment. If the circumstances affect your desired property, we will endeavour to find you alternative and similar accommodation on Brewlands Estate at a similar rental. If the alternative is unacceptable to you, or the rental more than you wish to pay, we will refund all of your original rental deposit.
Except where otherwise expressly stated in these Conditions, the Owner shall not be liable for changes beyond our control.

CANCELLATION BY YOU

If you have to cancel your reservation you must telephone the Owner on the number shown on your booking confirmation as soon as the reason for the cancellation occurs. You must also confirm your cancellation by email. The day on which we receive the written cancellation is the day on which your reservation is cancelled.

Deposits and balances are non-refundable in the event of a cancellation. Please note that should you cancel your booking prior to the balance due date, the full amount still remains payable by you. If we are able to re-let the holiday subsequent to your cancellation the balance alone will be refunded minus an administration fee of £100. We advise that you ensure that your holiday insurance covers you for this.

COMPLAINTS

We hope that you will not have any cause for complaint but in the event of a problem arising, and should you have cause for complaint, you must, in the first instance, contact the manager of the property immediately so that any problem may be speedily resolved, as the manager must be given the opportunity to rectify the problem. Some problems are very easily rectified if notified. If, after this, you feel that the problem has not been resolved then you must, within 7 days of the end of your holiday, put your complaint in writing to The Owner for their comments and response.
