Our very own King of the River
Our Sporting Manager, Euan Ivory, has just been crowned King of the River for the 2014 season on the River Thurso (Caithness).
This much sought after title was bestowed on Euan because he caught the biggest salmon on the river this year. The hen fish was a whopping 23 1/2 lb!! This was much to the consternation of his fellow anglers, most particularly Dougie, the Head Ghillie on the River Thurso, who had been holding the title until that point with a 21 lb salmon. The fish was weighed on the river bank in the presence of 5 witnesses before being returned to the water.
This enormous salmon was caught in the Mill Stream on Beat 2 on a willie gunn skullhead (that's a fly for any non-anglers out there!) Euan has fished this beat every year for the past 7 years but it will be this September day that will stick in his mind for many years to come. It might be whispered that his delight was further enhanced by the fact that his cousin had fished the pool all morning before him and caught nothing. He will be presented with a trophy later in the year.
Euan is always happy to give advice to anyone staying on the Estate about rods, flies or techniques. He can by hired by guests for the day on the lochs and rivers. If you would like more information about fishing at Brewlands Estate please email firstname.lastname@example.org
